I not only embrace diversity, I represent it. With my background, I feel like a citizen of all nations. My heritage encompasses a mélange of Spanish, Native American, and African cultures. I consider myself a fusion of Mestizo (Spaniard and South American Indian), Mulato (African and Spaniard), and Zambo (African and South American Indian). Born in the United States yet raised in Colombia, speaking English and Spanish since I was a child, my life experiences have taught me the value of appreciating complexity. Multiple overlapping identities, cultures, languages and circumstances have been the mainstay for me, and for many others, as I have come to know.
As a graphic designer, I wanted to create a line of greeting cards that not only took advantage of my professional skills, but also honored my heritage. In other words, I wanted to bring Latino traditions and expressions to an even wider audience. The end result of my efforts has been a melding of art, culture, and pride translated into one-of-a-kind greeting cards celebrating the many aspects of Latino culture.
Mulatos & Zambos greeting cards showcase the art and poetry of Latino artists. As you can see, they are different from anything else on the market, yet beautiful and unique.
I am just one of many contributing artists at Mulatos & Zambos. We come from different Latin-American countries with diverse backgrounds. Our multicultural experiences and forms of expression are our personal seal and are both our reality and mission statement.
We hope that you enjoy our page.
